An event being held in the wake of the death of a young Shelburne man earlier this year was raising money for a playground he once enjoyed.

Jacey Cox, 28, died in a car crash on Jan. 22 in Edmonton. Since the tragedy, his family and friends have come together to start an annual community event.

Lots of people came out on Saturday to take part in the many activities. The memorial fundraiser and fun day, held at Cox’s childhood neighbourhood and hangout …the George Street basketball court and playground in Shelburne, included 3-on-3 basketball and a washer toss tournament.

All funds raised will be used in improving the basketball court and playground over the next few years.

The event is also in being held in memory of another young Shelburne County man, D. J. Foster-Pushie, who died in a 2013 car crash.

Organizers are also teaming up with the I’m so Scotian clothing line which is going to dedicate a portion of their We’r everywhere t-shirt sales to Jacey’s memory. Donations can also be made at http://www.gofundme.com/80psy0 or at the Town of Shelburne for the George Street Park.
