Mark the calendar for family fun festivals
Families will have their pick of fun activities that are planned over the next two weekends in Middleton, Bear River and Port George.
The 29th annual Heart of the Valley Festival in Middleton starts Friday and runs through Sunday, while the 121st Cherry Carnival kicks-off on Saturday morning in Bear River.
Middleton’s Heart of the Valley line-up kicks-off with Yuk Yuk’s Comedy night, followed by Joker’s Right hosting the Kitchen party starting around 10 p.m.
Broke With Money will be providing musical entertainment throughout the morning on Saturday and Cool Moves BMX display team will be up to the usual tricks starting around 10 a.m.
The Bed Races start at 11 a.m. and various activities will keep people entertained until the parade starts at 1:30 p.m. Events are planned at Rotary Park after the parade and music will be provided by SWIG.
Sunday morning starts with a mixed denominational church service at 10:45 a.m. and the car show at Rotary Raceway Park. The Margie Brown Duo will provide musical entertainment leading up the festival’s grand finale, the fireworks display, happening at dusk.
The Bear River Cherry Carnival is an exciting family day on Saturday, sponsored by the Bear River Volunteer Fire Department. The day kicks-off the day with a boot-drive, a chance to support the local fire department.
The street parade leads the activities, beginning on Riverview Road, crossing town and travelling around the river to disband at the Fire Hall. A delicious home-cooked dinner will follow.
Water sports are featured throughout the afternoon with favorite event walking the greased pole. Late afternoon features another home-cooked meal. At dusk the Cherry Carnival Day comes to an end with a spectacular a show of fireworks.
Next weekend, country music fans will get their fix of tunes and fish and chips at the 32 annual Port George Jamboree, set to run for 11 hours on July 26.
The Jamboree combines 11 hours of live country music along with fabulous food, a 200 table "all-day" Flea Market, a pancake breakfast, activities for kids, supper and camping.
Bring a lawn chair and shades, as it’s held outdoors on the shore in Port George. Fabulous fish and chips, strawberry shortcake, lobster rolls, fruit smoothies, hamburgers and hotdogs are available at the canteen.
This event is a major fundraising event for local Lions Clubs, with all proceeds going back into the local communities. The Jamboree is held rain or shine. For more information, visit the website at www.countryjamboree.ca for more information.
