The Valley's hottest and fastest-growing festival is ready to celebrate the blues and blues rock of the East Coast.
In it's fourth year, Smokin’ Blues Fest features a stellar lineup of regional bands. July 11-12 at the Fox Mountain Camping Park in Aylesford. The family-friendly event strives to create an affordable "stay-cation" for local residents, while drawing folks from as far away as California and BC. Focusing on East Coast music, the organizer of the event tries to get bands from all areas of the Maritimes. Headliners will be Matt Minglewood Band (celebrating 50 years in the biz) and John Campbelljohn Trio.
There will be two Hants County bands making their fellow County-folks proud. Eddy's Basement will be busting out a set of "70s blues rock" and No Name Blues Band will be cruising through a song list of classic blues and some originals. Both bands possess modest and realistic expectations of today's music scene and work hard to get the crowd dancing and wanting more.
These bands understand the vision and goal behind the festival and want to see it succeed as much as those investing the time and money to make it happen. One of the best features of the event is how all the bands mingle with each other and the fans during the weekend. Smokin' Blues Fest is a grassroots event with modest expectations and big heart.
Along with a weekend packed with music, there will also be a vendor fair, comedians, Smokin' Blues burgers at the canteen, belly dancers, cigar box guitar demos, a kids "Dance Away The Blues" contest where each participant will receive a pass for themselves and another friend to Oaklawn Farm Zoo. The event offers on-site camping for only $10/person/night and free parking.
