Fitness and fun remains at the centre of LifeCycle.

Now in its fourth year, Dr. Howard Wightman was thrilled with the response to the June 29 event, held in Kentville.

“We doubled our riders last year over the year before, and we've more than doubled our riders this year over last year,” said Wightman, who is one of the organizers of the event.

There were 534 riders pre-registered for the event and he estimates that another 60 or so were registered onsite, for a total of close to 600. Of those, about 140 riders were kids, which thrilled Wightman.

“We made school presentations to 2,000 children. Really, our target audience is to get more and more kids out,” he added.

Life Cycle is starting to be recognized as a community event, he said.

Mother Nature played a helping hand of this year’s success, Wightman said.

“The weather was great – a little warm, but a lot better than rain. We're more than pleased with the turnout. We're looking to host a safe family event to promote physical activity, and I'd say we've accomplished that.”
