Emergency department closing three Wednesdays in July

Digby General Hospital emergency department plans to close for three eight-hour shifts in July due to physician unavailability. The department will be closed three Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 2, July 9 and July 16.

South West Health

People requiring emergency services during the hours of closure are advised to visit the nearest open emergency department or collaborative emergency centre. Please call first to ensure it is open.

A family physician and nurse practitioner are taking appointments at the Digby Clinic for those without a family physician or primary care provider. Make an appointment by calling 245-2502, extension 3243

The public is reminded to dial 911 in the case of a health emergency; paramedics can administer live saving treatment during transport to hospital.

In non-emergency situations, call 811 to speak to a Registered Nurse 24 hours a day, seven days a week for advice. People experiencing a mental health issue can call the toll-free 24/7 mental health crisis line, 1-888-429-8167.

    But you just had an article, Digby doesn't need more physician because even the 4 is more than ever had before in Digby! Shouldn't revise this statement and get more doctors if even this many not enough to keep the hospital and emergency department open and working all the time?
