Music students will have the chance to raise money for trips and crafters will have a different venue to get out and sell their products next weekend with a new craft show being held as part of the Apple Blossom festivities.

Maureen Hemphill is hosting the Apple Blossom Craft Show, in partnership with the Northeast Kings Education Centre music department, at the Louis Millett Community Complex in New Minas on May 31.

In total, 39 crafters are expected to participate.

“It will be all local crafters on hand,” Hemphill said.

A wide variety of crafters and artisans, as well as a baker, have been lined up for the show.

Hemphill said she had heard from crafters that they were looking for a show in the late spring. There are already several shows in the fall, including the annual Northeast Kings Education Centre craft fair, which Hemphill also organizes.

At the school show in the fall, Hemphill gets students from the music program to work and earn money for their trip fund. Hemphill said she contributes $10 to the trip account for every hour each student volunteer works. The Apple Blossom show will work the same way and 18 student volunteers will be participating.

Hemphill said the people at the community centre are very accommodating and there is lots of parking at the venue. She said it’s a convenient location that will be easy to get in and out of, well outside the Grand Street Parade route.

The craft show runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is $2 per person or free for preschoolers. For more information, email mshemphill@ns.sympatico.ca or call 678-6505.
