Jerry’s weather: February was colder and wetter than normal, with a mean temperature of minus 3.7° C, slightly below normal. It was the 14th coldest February since 1984. Temperatures high of 8.3°C on Feb. 14 to a low of minus 14.8° C on Feb. 12. Pronounced thaw occurred Feb. 10-24. Precipitation amounted to 146.2 mm, the wettest February in 31 years, including 51 mm of rain, 85 cms of snow, fourth highest since 1984. Notable precipitation: 23.5 cm of snow Feb. 5-6; storm Feb. 13-14 totalling 38 mm rain and 3.8 cm snow; 12.8 cm snow Feb. 18-19; and 22 cm snow on Feb. 20.

At the Canning Legion: Karaoke with Bev will be held March 21, 9 p.m., admission $2. A dance, with classic rock music by V-3, featuring Gary Sherman, Dave Dodge and Neil McNeil, will be held March 22, 9 p.m.-1 a.m., admission $5. A roast beef supper will be held March 26, 4:30-6 p.m., $12. Take-outs are available, call Legion after 4 p.m. daily at 582-7246.

The Canning Princess Tea is April 7, 7 p.m. Canning Lions Hall. Apple crisp, tea/coffee and punch $7, children under 10 free, door prize. Five candidates competing: Kristen Bennett, Samantha Firth, Rachel Kluska, Lacey Smith and Jordyn Van Oostrum.
