Campaign For Kids, a local children’s charity serving Kings County, was selected as a partner in the Payless ShoeSource “Shoes 4 Kids” Campaign, a grass roots initiative delivering $1.2 million of free shoes to children of families in need this holiday season.
In October, U.S.-based Payless ShoeSource invited non-profit community-based youth and family support organizations in Canada and the United States to make an on-line application for the free footwear certificates. From the nearly 3,000 non-profits that applied, 700 community charities in North America were chosen to distribute the shoe gift coupons to their clients and constituents. The coupons are redeemable toward a pair of children's footwear at any Payless ShoeSource store.
Campaign For Kids was one of only four registered charities in Nova Scotia, and the only organization outside the Metro Halifax area, selected.
“This donation represents a wonderful way for our foundation to offer additional supports to local families at Christmas,” said Campaign For Kids chairwoman Laurie Wanamaker.
”Christmas can be a challenging time for families that face economic hardship. What better gift to a child and family at Christmas than to meet the immediate and basic need for a new pair of shoes or boots – especially ones they can choose for themselves?”
December 14, Campaign For Kids board members Ann Marsters and Ken Reade visited the Payless ShoeSource location at the County Fair Mall in New Minas to thank the corporation on behalf of the foundation.
“This partnership between our foundation and Payless ShoeSource will make a real difference to some families in our community this Christmas,” said Marsters, reporting the 50 certificates designated to Campaign For Kids would be distributed to deserving Kings County youth through the foundation’s network of supporters and volunteers the week before Christmas.
