“Our government is proud to support Privateer Days,” said Keddy. “By partnering with communities to support activities that celebrate our shared history and our rich cultural diversity, we are fulfilling our government’s commitment to strengthen our communities and support arts, culture and heritage.”
“Funding provided by the Government of Canada will help to bring back local entertainment to Privateer Days as well as to celebrate the history of Queens County and its privateering heritage,” said Ann Langille, Chair of the Privateer Days Commission.
The announcement coincided with the opening of the Queens County Museum’s 250th Liverpool Township anniversary display and a display of prominent Queens County historians.
In September 2007, the Conservative Government announced the new Building Communities through Arts and Heritage (BCAH) program to provide Canadians with more opportunities to take part in local activities that present arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage.
“As most of us know, 2009 marks the 250th anniversary of the founding of the Liverpool Township and the Privateer Days weekend will help to celebrate this anniversary with a host of activities and local, live entertainment,” said Keddy. “I would like to take this time to congratulate the Privateer Days Commission on a job well done and to thank them for their hard work in helping to educate our future generations of their rich and diverse heritage.”
