The group had originally planned to produce this show for Nov. 2007, but due to casting challenges it had to be postponed. At that time, the theatre group had a valid license and permission to do the show. Unfortunately, things change. Sometime between Nov. 2007 and now, the version of Boeing Boeing that was being used became restricted for use.
This is a copyright issue, and usually is due to a show running on Broadway where other productions are restricted to guarantee quality and audience for the professional groups doing the show. It is doubtful that a Winds of Change production would hamper ticket sales on Broadway, but rules are rules and it only took one telephone call from the licensing agent to shut down production.
The director, cast and crew were devastated by the news after countless hours of rehearsal. Richard Comeau, long-time member of the Winds of Change, and director of Boeing Boeing sums up the emotions of the cast. “We hate to disappoint the community, who have consistently supported us and cheered us on, but our hands are tied. We are all very disappointed.”
This, by no means, will keep the dynamic amateur theatre group down for long. Discussion is already underway to select a new play for the spring, and they urge interested community members to come forward as performers, directors, stage hands and crew.
The Winds of Change appreciates the good wishes of the community regarding this unfortunate cancellation. Stay tuned for news of a future production.

Licensing rules shuts down production
“The show must go on.” Well, yes, theatre people will all agree that in the face of mighty odds, extremes of stage fright, nerves, egos, conflicting schedules and forgotten lines there is nothing worse than canceling a show. That phrase was originally coined regarding the weather. British rain dripping through the open roof of Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre did not stop performances, but there is a big difference between a good soaking and licensing agreement. As a result of issues beyond their control, and with great regret, the Winds of Change is canceling their fall production of Boeing Boeing.
