Minnie Rogers‚ contribution to her community has earned her the title of Kingston’s 2008 Volunteer of the Year.

Rogers was nominated by the Kingston and Area Senior Association, for which she serves as an executive member. Besides her work with that organization, Rogers has also volunteered her time to the Kingston/ Greenwood Hospital Auxiliary, the Western Kings Arena Association (WKAA) and Scouts Canada. She is equally active in her church community as a member of the deacons’ board and as president of the social and benevolent club. She is a member of the church choir and contributes to the reception committee, the Women’s Missionary Society and the couples’ committee.

Lorraine Hines presented highlights of Rogers' volunteer service to the community at the May 7 annual general meeting of the Kingston Village Commission. She acknowledged Rogers as “a lady who volunteers in all aspects of community life,” and thanked her for “being willing to volunteer whenever and wherever there is a need.”

The village commission received eight additional nominations for this year’s volunteer award, including former village chairman Murray Kinsman for his service to the village commission, Wayne Fowler, nominated by the WKAA; Pine Ridge Middle School Home and School nominee Larry Coldwell, Lynda Pierce, for her work with the Canadian Cancer Society; Vicky Parker and Eric and Rachel Wood.
