Community Christmas Trees

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas… everywhere you go in the Region of Queens Municipality! Communities from throughout Queens have worked together to decorate Christmas trees for the annual Community Christmas Tree Contest sponsored by the Region’s Recreation & Community Facilities Department. Residents are encouraged to take a tour of the trees, and take in the cooperative efforts in each community. Start a family tradition by traveling throughout the Region, viewing the beautiful trees and the pretty lights; it is a great way to get in the holiday mood, and feel pride in your community! Trees are located throughout the Municipality - East Port L'Hebert (at the corner of Main and East Side Rds.), Port Joli (at the Port Joli Community Hall), Brooklyn (at the Brooklyn Community Hall), Port Medway (beside the Farmer's Medway Market), Kempt (at the Junction of Route 8 and the Northfield Rd.), North Brookfield (at the North Brookfield Church), Penny Lane Enterprises (on Pleasant St., Milton) and at the North Queens Nursing Home. Grab a thermos of hot chocolate, tune the car radio to Christmas carols, and take your family out to see Christmas spirit in Queens!

Become a Fitness Instructor

Do you want to get fit, find wellness and inspire others in your community? What better way than to become a certified fitness instructor educated by the Nova Scotia Fitness Association (NSFA). The South Shore needs fitness leaders and the NSFA will bring the course to you! The educational path to becoming a fitness instructor begins with Fitness Theory. In this 24-hour module, you will learn about basic nutrition, the musculo-skeletal system, exercise physiology, anatomy, conditioning principles, legal liability, safety, et cetera. Fitness Theory is the pre-requisite course to other modules (such as Group Fitness Leader, Older Adult Fitness Leader, Aqua Fitness Leader, etc.). For more information, and to register, please contact the SNAFU office by mailing Diane Bellefontaine at diane@nsfa.info or call 902-425-1128, ext. 224. This 24-hour course will be held at Bridgewater High School on Thursday, Feb. 7 (4:30 - 9:30 p.m.), Saturday, Feb. 9t (9 a.m. - 6 p.m.), Thursday, Feb. 21 (4:30 - 9:30 p.m.) and Thursday, Feb. 28t (4 - 10 p.m.), and will cost $171 (includes tax and a course manual).
