Dear Editor:

On Saturday, Oct. 21, the Annapolis Royal and area community rallied once again to support someone in need.

The Dorothy Halliday Benefit Day was a cooperative project of four local organizations, the Legion, Fire Department, Lions Club and Historic Gardens. Dorothy, a long-time gardener with the Historic Gardens and active community volunteer, was struck by illness this past summer and as a result, lost her work season. With no work opportunity now until April, Dorothy needed help to meet the expenses of the coming winter. And help is what she got. The benefit, consisting of a variety of events to suit different interests, raised just over $8,300 in support of Dorothy.

The partner organizations were pleased to join forces for such a worthy cause, and would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who contributed in any way. The staff, members and volunteers representing the four organizations were instrumental in the success of all the events of the day. Thanks to the many people who donated food to the bake sale or the dessert café, and thanks to the businesses and individuals who donated items to the Silent Auction. To all the musicians who donated their time and talent, our sincere thanks, and our appreciation also to those who assisted with sound gear and setup. And to everyone who came out to the events and supported them, or made cash donations to the cause, thank you so much for your generosity.

It was heartwarming to see so many people show their support for Dorothy in so many ways. The community spirit here is second to none, so hats off to everyone for making this such a great place to live.

Sincerely,

Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens
