Hey! You there!

You know who I’m talking about. You’re the one who berated the cashier because the store was closing at 5 p.m. instead of staying open later on Sunday.

Did you really think that the stores were going to be open the same hours Sunday as they are the rest of the week?

Do you really think they will open on statutory holidays?

Here’s another thought. Now that they can be open on Sunday you are going to find that maybe they won’t be open in the evenings some other days. There was a time when stores were not open Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. And I see that some of the city shopping centres are going to close on Saturday evenings.

You have to realize that there’s only so many dollars they made over six days and now that will be spread over seven days, so to keep their operating budgets in line with profits, dear shopper, you’re going to lose some other shopping hours.

I see the daily newspaper held an informal poll and it seems that 66 per cent of us didn’t rush out to shop on Sundays.

A store’s profit will dictate when and for how long they’ll be open to serve you. A good dose of reality and economics is what you need.
