Basin View and Cornwallis Project 4-H members participated in the Kings County Joint Achievement Days at the Glooscap Arena in Canning Thursday and Friday, Aug. 7 and 8. This year’s theme was “4-H: A Step to the Future.”

Part of Basin View’s display was green and white feet (4-H colours) with project names on them, climbing up an old apple ladder. The combination of tall cattails and sunflowers in old rubber boots, which they used in all their displays, made their poultry and livestock displays easy to spot.

Cornwallis Project had a green background with black letters declaring the theme and a whole series of human, bird and animal footprints progressing underneath for their indoor display. Their outside livestock display had a two-dimensional cow, sheep and chicken standing in front of a red farm door with “Future.”

The first day featured judging of crafts; scrapbooking; foods; small animals -- rabbits, poultry, sheep and goats; other projects; as well as the fashion show.

The second day featured horses, cattle and the tractor pulls. Honoured during the final awards presentation were Mark Trenholm of Cornwallis Project as Top Junior Member in the county, and Laura Peill, also of Cornwallis Project, who received the Daisy Ward Memorial Trophy recognizing community service.

A number of members from each club advanced to the Provincial Show, which will take place in Windsor Sept. 26-28.
