When Wealth Professional magazine recently came out with its list of the top 50 financial advisors in Canada, the only one from the Atlantic region was Cyrilla Saunders, a Yarmouth County native who divides her time between Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.
She not only made the magazine’s top 50 but also cracked the top 10, making it to number nine on the list.
Saunders – vice-president of Saunders Wealth Advisory Group (CIBC Wood Gundy) – opened her company’s Yarmouth office a year-and-a-half ago, but her home for the past 25 years has been P.E.I., where she also has an office.
Her roots, however, are in Yarmouth County.
“I was born and raised in Lower West Pubnico, fisherman’s daughter, French Acadian,” she says.
Finishing high school at Ste-Anne-du-Ruisseau in 1978, she then attended Acadia University, where she took the business program, majoring in accounting and finance.
She has worked as a qualified financial advisor since 1996 and says she likes her work very much.
“The joy that we get from doing the work that we do is that we actually bring peace of mind to our clients,” she says.
Referring to the nature of what she does, she says, “I’m lucky because I get up everyday and I go to work and I’m greatly satisfied and I’m always challenged and I love getting to the crux … that really fuels my energy.”
She says she has made knowledge a priority for her team.
“We never stop studying,” she says.
Ultimately, she says, it’s people – clients and colleagues – that make it all worthwhile.
“It’s the people you meet that make your work,” she says.
