It appears the world is watching as the year-round Forest Lakes Country Club Resort becomes a reality.

The Terra Firma Development Corporation (TFDC) project, mapped out for more than 1,700 acres of land in the Municipality of West Hants, will feature Atlantic Canada’s only Nicklaus Design golf course, up to 2,700 dwellings, walking trails, an equestrian facility and a village centre — to name a few things.

Terra Firma recently announced that the resort has attracted buyers from more than 40 countries.

“Canada’s economy, to begin with, is a very good draw. We’re really seen as a stable economy. We’re seen as a great place,” said Dave Kerr, chief operating officer for TFDC, in an interview.

Construction crews are in the process of building three model homes and a visitors’ lodge on the site of the developing resort community.

Kerr says the plan is to have the model homes fitted for viewing by late spring.

“The excitement on the faces of the people who do visit us from around the world just inspires and encourages us even more because they know what a special thing we have here and what a special place to live in Nova Scotia is,” said Kerr.

The initial stages of construction included the creation of more than five kilometres of access roads and installation of equestrian fencing.  Walking trails and park spaces have been incorporated into the master design.

A development agreement approved by the Municipality of West Hants in July 2011 states that the Forest Lakes Country Club Resort could also include a hotel, restaurant, nine-hole golf course, retail space, ice rink, curling rink and water park if the market allows for such additions.

“These things will evolve over the next couple of years and become the draw for the village,” said Kerr, who stressed that the multimillion-dollar project will be built out over a span of 15 to 20 years.

Kerr said they are striving to maintain the “forest feel” within the resort, but there is potential for a business park to be constructed nearby.

“We have some land set aside for a technology and business park on the other side of the highway.”

Kerr says it is an exciting time for all involved in the making of the Forest Lakes Country Club Resort.

“I believe it’s destined to become one of the centre attractions in Nova Scotia.”

good luck with this venture............I suspect many of the potential customers from 40 countries have no clue where Nova Scotia is not to mention that the site is in the middle of friggin nowhere.........and why would they buy here given the proliferation - saturation of golf course developments world wide................lots of smoke and mirrors here. I hope it takes off however as this impoverished province could use any economic boost. Good thing the Canadian dollar is cheap also.

what benefits will there be for the residents living just outside the development, example) the quite peaceful rural area will be no more, and all the traffic and noise from all the building going on is great for us all ,The change will be much appreciated for other reasons I'm sure.I for one am realizing just how not peaceful it is and will be.

Just curious, but if West Hants is not capable of attracting and holding industrial business for their existing industrial parks, why and or what would be the attraction for this new development?
