Letter to the Kings County Advertiser

To the Editor:

Small businesses are an integral par of the Nova Scotia economy and, in particular, our Valley economy.

Not only do small businesses employ half of the workers in Nova Scotia, they provide employment for Nova Scotians in Nova Scotia.

Nova Scotia Liberal leader Stephen MacNeil’s proposed tax cut for these small businesses is long overdue. Reducing the small business tax from five to one per cent will provide economic stability and an incentive for new hirings.

Nova Scotia needs to create an environment that welcomes new business and encourages entrepreneurship. Establishing a microcredit lending facility within the Nova Scotia Business Inc. will provide needed support to these small business owners.

Small businesses are the backbone of our communities, not only for economic reasons, but social benefits as well. They support our schools, our hospitals, our athletes, our service organizations and our communities in general.

When you think of fundraising, you think of small business owners. From soccer shirts to safe grad, small businesses contribute more than their share.

It is time for us to give back. Please support our small business owners.
