'Cats, Dry rained out

In their three games this week, the Kentville Wildcats collected a win, a loss and a no-decision, at least for now.

The Wildcats hosted Dartmouth Wednesday, June 10 at Memorial Park.

The teams were tied 9-9 after 10 innings and Dartmouth had scored a run in the top of the 11th for a 10-9 lead when the game was suspended after, in the opinion of the umpires, field conditions became unplayable.

Kentville took an early 1-0 lead on a Luke Smith sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first, but Dartmouth came back to lead 4-2 before the Wildcats scored six in the sixth inning. With Kentville leading 9-5, Dartmouth scored four in the top of the ninth to tie the score.

A light drizzle began early in the game and gradually got heavier until the fifth inning, when it stopped until the rain began again – this time a lot harder – around 11 p.m.

Under NSSBL rules, the game will be replayed in its entirety, at a still-to-be-determined date and time.

Split doubleheader in Truro

The Wildcats split a June 7 doubleheader in Truro, losing a game they probably deserved to win and winning one they likely should have lost.

In the opening game, Kentville starter Trevor Wamback surrendered just five hits in a complete game performance, but Truro translated their hits into five runs, good enough for a 5-2 win.

Truro starter Brandon Mallally and reliever John Chapman combined to limit the Wildcats to two runs - both in the eighth inning - on six hits, with Mallally picking up the win and Chapman earning a save.

Brad Steadman had an RBI single for the Wildcats while Matt Davis, Joe MacPherson and Jeff Chisholm had RBI singles for Truro.

In the second game, Kentville scored five runs in the first three innings, including a three-run third, then held on for a 7-4 win.

Truro scored twice in the bottom of the ninth, but Curtis Falls retired the side to earn a save in relief of starter and winning pitcher Corey Kent.

Matt Black, who pitched the first five innings for Truro, took the loss.

Wamback and Ian Mosher (who caught both games of the doubleheader) each had two singles and drove in a pair of runs. J.P. Wood had the game’s only home run for Truro, which scored twice in the second and the eighth.

The Wildcats are next in action June 16 when they visit Halifax, after which they return home to host Truro at 7:30 Wednesday, June 17.
