Students offer fun evening out at West Kings

Topics :
International Brotherhood of Magicians , International Magic Society , Auburn , Ontario

West Kings’ athletics student executive is hosting hypnotist Robert Lamar’s “Theatre of the Mind” show March 4, 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., at the Auburn high school.

Robert Lamar has devoted much of his life to the study and understanding of magic, hypnosis, memory training and parapsychology.

Born in Ontario, he developed an interest in this specialized field at an early age. When he was six, he started learning through trick packages he ordered from magic catalogues. At age 12, he saw one of the world's truly great entertainers, The Impossiblist, Peter Reveen. He eventually met Reveen, and the friendship they established has endured for many years. He has also spent many years studying the allied arts: mesmerism, hypnotism and magic as a performance art. His studies led him to the conclusion the field he wished to enter was not one of formal hypnotism but of a highly focused state of attention through which he could tap into a person's natural creativity. This was the formative basis for developing “Theatre of the Mind.”

Robert LAMAR, in addition to more than 30 years devoted to the study of his craft, is a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians (I.B.M.) - the largest organization of its kind in the world, with embership achieved only through sponsorship. Lamar's sponsor into the society was his friend and mentor, Reveen; the Society of American Magicians and the International Magic Society.

Canadians have been amazed and entertained by “Theatre of the Mind” through live shows and television appearances.

Tickets are students $8 in advance, $10 at the door; adults $10. Contact 765-0613 or 847-4440 for tickets or information

The student body focuses on fundraising for athletics teams’ uniforms, referees, events such as the annual banquet and also advertise games and promote physically active lifestyles during school-wide events, including girls' and boys' weeks.
