Valley Search and Rescue volunteers found the remains of a male in the Cornwallis River Friday afternoon, Aug. 8.
As of Saturday it wasn’t known if the incident had any connection with a missing person report earlier in the week.
Kentville Police Sgt. George Dunfee confirmed Saturday that Valley Search and Rescue had found the remains in the river by Brooklyn Street at about 3 p.m. Friday afternoon.
“The remains were taken to Halifax for an autopsy, which has been done,” Dunfee said. Police have to wait for a positive identification as well as notification of next of kin before the name of the deceased is made public.
“It’s still under investigation until there is a positive identification,” Dunfee noted.
North Kentville resident 31-year-old Barry Gene Morehouse was reported missing Aug. 2. Police, firefighters and Valley Search and Rescue conducted a search along the Cornwallis River.
Morehouse had been last seen around 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, near the Glooscap Curling Rink, Kentville, wearing a black T Shirt with white lettering and a pair of blue jeans and brown shoes.
