The production line, located at the plant that is southeast of Windsor, will boost the Toronto-based firm's output of ketchup, mustard and other condiments.
The Ontario government's contribution of $1.25 million is earmarked for a new packaging line that puts ketchup, mustard and sauces in a reusable and recyclable plastic jug, after previously using a metal container.
The firm, which makes 5,700 products including tuna and pasta, said 80 per cent of its expanded production would go to food service customers in the U.S.
Heinz Canada employs 2,000 workers.
