A subsidiary of an Ottawa company has become the first Internet registrar to be accredited to provide the dot-name domain for cyberspace addresses.

London , Barbados , Australia

Namescout.com, a subsidiary of Momentous.ca, has secured this accreditation from the Global Name Registry of London.

This domain is said to be the first to be designated for individuals.

"You'll be able to create your own Web address and use your dot-name as an address through which you can have all your e-mail forwarded," Global Name Registry president Andrew Tsai said in a statement. "Your dot-name can soon become a single contact point and storage place for personal information that you can access anywhere, anytime."

Namescout.com, which operates in Barbados and Australia, is to start processing dot-name addresses Nov. 22.

Momentous.ca is also the parent company of Internic.ca, ranked Canada's leading Internet registrar.
