Bridgestone Firestone serait en train de considérer la fermeture de ses installations Decatur en Illinois, lieu de production des fameux pneus Wilderness AT.

Ces pneus sont actuellement au centre d'un rappel majeur en Amérique du Nord et du Sud, étant blâmés pour un nombre d'accidents, surtout sur des Ford Explorer.

Le fabricant japonais de pneus a donc déposé un avertissement de possibilité de fermeture d'usine auprès du syndicat des United Steelworkers, qui représente les employés horaires à l'usine.

L'entreprise attribue sa décision à la nécessité de jumeler la demande du marché et la capacité de production. Aucune mention du rappel dans le projet de fermeture.
